I know there have been crickets taking up residence on here lately.
BE GONE, crickets! Things are about to change. See, they HAVE to change. One of my life quotes is this:

I am not insane...at the moment (give me a few hours, it IS concert week!) But I can tell you that I have not been super happy with my body, my running or some of the bad habits I've gotten into lately. I've obviously been here before and I know what it takes to turn it around.
Thankfully, this change in weather and season has made it easier to enjoy running again and more than I was last time I wrote. As The Running Depot ambassador, I was able to run two of my most favorite 5K's in the last few weeks. And I got to run both with people I love which makes the time I had even better!

First, the Mchenry Turkey Trot for Hospice on Thanksgiving Day
Thanksgiving is my most favorite holiday. I love cooking and having people over and the Thanksgiving meal is the most epic meal one can cook! But I also love getting some miles in before all of the festivities and food and this race is close to home, helps a great cause and I always have a great time!
Since their inaugural event in 2012, Siman Family Chartities (a 501(c)(3) organization) has donated $93,000 (100% of our profits) to JourneyCare Hospice & Palliative Services. Sadly, most people nowadays can idenitify with what Hospice does for cancer patients and their families. The profits of this race do a whole lot of good.
The course is an easy loop and is very family friendly. There were many parents with strollers and multigenerational families who make this race a tradition. My friend, Melissa and I were able to run and talk the whole race. What a great morning!

Only 10 days later, I was able to run the Kiwanis Santa Run with my son, Ben.
This race is special and is the most family friendly race I've ever run. This races also supports many agencies and causes that help children and families, including Girls on the Run, Kiwanis International, Big Brothers & Big Sisters of Mchenry County, CASA of Mchenry County, Main Stay Theraputic Farm and Turning Point. What makes this race so fun is that instead of giving out shirts to all of the participants, they hand out santa suits! FULL Santa suits: pants, jackets, belts, hats, and beards!
The course for all of the downtown Crystal Lake races is generally the same. It's a nice course with enough variety to keep everyone's interest. The weather this year was great! It was a little chilly and snowing lightly the whole race. The snow, was a heavy snow, though and if you were one of those who got the most from your race entry by finishing later, you were pretty wet by the end. But it's winter! I loved that it was snowing.
Thank you so much, The Running Depot for sponsoring me and allowing me to run these great races! Next race is my absolute favorite winter race, The Frozen Gnome!
I really would like to get back into blogging more to help keep me accountable in some new goals in the coming years. So no more crickets! Have a wonderful holiday season and a Happy New Year, friends!
